Air Fryer Ground Beef: Meatballs and Burgers Without the Grease Fire

An air fryer is a small hot cupboard with a fan in it, and for all the hype it is genuinely very good at one thing that matters here: it renders fat off and crisps the edges of meat in a way a pan struggles to, without you standing over it. Everyone owns one now, mostly to reheat chips they feel guilty about. Here is what it is actually for on a diet made of beef.

It is the least-effort, easiest-cleanup corner of our carnivore ground beef recipes.

Can you cook ground beef in an air fryer?

Yes, and it is better suited to shaped beef than to loose mince. Meatballs and patties hold together, brown on all sides in the moving hot air, and drip their excess fat into the drawer below. Loose mince tends to scatter and dry out, so form it into balls or patties first and let the air fryer do what it is good at.

Air fryer carnivore meatballs, no breadcrumbs

The usual worry is that meatballs fall apart without breadcrumbs. They do not, if you bind them properly. An egg yolk and a good handful of grated parmesan hold the mince together and season it at the same time, no bread required. Rolled firm and cooked in the moving air, they come out browned all over rather than flat-bottomed like a tray-baked one.

Total Time 22 minutes

Ingredients

  • 500 grams 20% Ground Beef
  • 1 Egg Yolk
  • 50 grams Grated Parmesan
  • 1 tsp Salt

Instructions

  • Mix the mince, egg yolk, parmesan and salt. The yolk and cheese bind the meatballs together without any breadcrumbs.
  • Roll into balls about the size of a golf ball, packing them firmly so they hold their shape.
  • Air fry at 200C/400F for ten to twelve minutes, shaking the basket once halfway, until browned all over and cooked through.
  • Keep the fat that collects in the drawer and spoon it back over the meatballs. Do not pour it away.
  • Serve hot, or cool them for cold high-protein snacks through the next day.

Air fryer burgers versus pan burgers

Honestly, for a burger the pan still wins on crust, because nothing beats beef pressed onto ripping-hot metal. What the air fryer gives you instead is convenience and a cleaner hob: form thicker patties, cook them through with no splatter, and finish with a slice of cheese in the last minute. If you want the lacy crust, make a smash burger in a pan instead. If you want no mess, the air fryer is fine.

What temperature and time for ground beef

Two hundred degrees Celsius, or four hundred Fahrenheit, is the setting for beef. Meatballs take about ten to twelve minutes with one shake of the basket halfway through; thicker patties want a similar time depending on how well done you like them. It is quick, and because the temperature is high the outside browns properly instead of stewing.

The drip-tray fat: keep it, do not bin it

The fat that collects in the drawer under the basket is rendered beef fat, which is to say free flavour and calories. Spoon it back over the meatballs, or keep it in a jar and cook the next thing in it. Pouring it down the sink is the one genuine mistake you can make with an air fryer and a pack of mince.

Does any of this have Fiber?

No, and nothing that comes out of an air fryer full of beef ever will. If the missing Fiber worries you, read why you don’t need vegetables to be healthy. Beef, egg yolk and cheese is a complete meal. The breadcrumbs it usually contains were only ever a cost-saving filler.
