Ingredients

  • 1 kg 20% Ground Beef
  • 500 ml Beef Bone Broth
  • 50 grams Tallow or beef dripping
  • 2 tsp Salt
  • 200 grams Grated Cheese optional, to finish

Instructions

  • Brown the mince hard in a hot pan first, in batches, so it colours instead of greying. Do not skip this or you get grey, boiled-tasting beef.
  • Tip the browned beef into the slow cooker (crockpot) with the bone broth, tallow and salt, and scrape in any browned bits from the pan.
  • Cook on low for four to six hours. The mince will drink the broth and the fat will render into a rich base.
  • If the fat pools on top, stir it back through before serving, or skim a little off if it is more than you want.
  • Stir in grated cheese at the end if you like, and serve. Portions keep for four or five days in the fridge and freeze for a month.
