Instructions
Brown the mince hard in a hot pan first, in batches, so it colours instead of greying. Do not skip this or you get grey, boiled-tasting beef.
Tip the browned beef into the slow cooker (crockpot) with the bone broth, tallow and salt, and scrape in any browned bits from the pan.
Cook on low for four to six hours. The mince will drink the broth and the fat will render into a rich base.
If the fat pools on top, stir it back through before serving, or skim a little off if it is more than you want.
Stir in grated cheese at the end if you like, and serve. Portions keep for four or five days in the fridge and freeze for a month.
